Hanks Dirty – Korean Mac n Cheese and La Vie Bacon Milkshake

This is from when Hanks Dirty was still at Beach Street in Felixstowe. Sadly, that one has now closed, but Hanks Dirty in Ipswich is still open under different owners and still serving all-vegan / plant-based food.

Going to Felixstowe has always been a nice family day out for us. Usually, we end up getting something to eat, and with Beach Street having a few different food options, we always manage to find something.

This time, I wanted to try some of Hanks Dirty’s newer food and drink options.

They had recently brought out new things like salad bowls and sandwiches, but we ignored all of that because the Mac n Cheese boxes were far more interesting to me. Very balanced decision-making, obviously.

What we had

Korean Mac n Cheese (£9.50)
We went for the Korean Mac n Cheese, which came topped with gochujang mayo, Korean BBQ sauce, Heura chick’n pieces, crispy onions, sesame seeds and parsley.

We love Asian flavours, so it was no surprise that this caught our attention.

For £9.50, I didn’t think it was a bad price, especially considering how much food we got.

I was properly impressed when I tried it. The cheese had a really creamy feel, and mixed with the gochujang mayo and Korean BBQ sauce, it just worked really well.

Every bite made me want more, which is usually a good sign unless you’re trying to be sensible. I was really happy I went for this.

La Vie Bacon Milkshake (£6.25)
We had been watching YouTube videos of people trying the old Five Guys bacon milkshakes, which I could never have had anyway, even before going vegan / plant-based, because I’ve been dairy-free for years after being advised by my doctor to avoid dairy.

So when Hanks brought out a La Vie bacon milkshake, I was very interested.

As someone who already likes La Vie bacon, I couldn’t wait to try it. To be honest, I was probably even more excited about the milkshake than the food at the time.

And it didn’t disappoint.

It had that sweet, salty bacon flavour, and it worked really well with the maple syrup. The saltiness of the bacon with the creamy milkshake was actually delicious.

It sounds a bit odd if you’ve never had that sort of thing, but I’d recommend trying one if you get the chance.

Final thoughts

The Korean Mac n Cheese was creamy, rich and full of flavour, and the La Vie bacon milkshake was a proper fun one to try.

It’s a shame the Felixstowe Hanks Dirty is no longer there, but I’m glad Hanks still lives on in Ipswich.
