Honest Burgers – Camembert Beyond Christmas Burger

This was an old Christmas special from Honest Burgers from 2024, so it won’t be available now, but I wanted to archive it properly on the website.

I went to Honest Burgers before Christmas in 2024 to try the Camembert Beyond burger, mainly because it used Honestly Tasty’s Shamembert, which is what attracted me to go and check it out.

When I looked at the menu, I noticed they had a Christmas special that included a burger, side dish and drink, so I went with that option.

It cost £21.50, but they also added a service charge, which took it up to £23.65.

The negatives

Straight away, the music was blasting loudly when I walked in. I couldn’t really catch what anyone was saying, and overpowering music does frustrate me.

I was actually glad I went alone, because trying to have a conversation in there would have been pretty much impossible.

Visually, the burger didn’t really match the picture’s appeal either. I remember last year’s Vurger Christmas burger looking very close to its photo, especially the bun. With this one, I expected a thicker bun than what arrived.

The roll looked like it had been in a boxing match before getting to my table. Looking at other people’s pictures, it didn’t seem to be their usual standard, so I’m not sure what happened there.

When it arrived, I was expecting top-tier burger game, because I’d heard a lot of good things about Honest Burgers. But when it got served, my brain just went, “Oh, okay.”

For me, the burger probably needed a stronger sauce to give it more of an edge. There was cranberry in it, but I think something like a gravy-style dip on the side could have helped, especially with the fries.

The positives

I did enjoy the smokiness of the burger. It gave me a bit of that Burger King-style flame-grilled vibe, which I do like.

The salad actually stood out more than the burger for me. I really liked the tanginess of the ranch dressing — very American-style, and definitely one of the better parts of the meal.

The Honestly Tasty Shamembert was nice, as expected. We already know that cheese does the job.

The rosemary fries were also very tasty, and probably one of the safer wins of the whole meal.

Final thoughts

Overall, it was okay to good, but nothing amazing for me.

It was perfectly acceptable, but not the top-tier burger experience I was hoping for, especially after hearing so many good things.

I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t leave thinking I needed to rush back for another one.

For the price, especially with the service charge added, I expected a bit more. Not terrible, just a bit underwhelming.
