Jacks At Woodlakes – Vegan Sunday Roast Near King’s Lynn

Another foodie adventure took us to Jacks at Woodlakes, near Stowbridge / King’s Lynn.

We went here for a family meal with my brother, as he lives near that way. We had already looked at the menu online beforehand, which is why we chose Jacks in the first place. Sensible behaviour from us for once.

When we arrived, they handed us the Sunday menu, and we already knew they did a vegan Sunday roast, so being in need of some vegetables, we decided to go with that.

They also have a separate veggie menu, and they offer gluten-free options as well.

The front of house asked if anyone had any allergies, and I said dairy. My dairy allergy isn’t severe to the point where I have to worry about it being in the air or anything like that, but I do need to avoid eating a load of it. Which is annoying really, because cheese had a good run before it betrayed me.

For the vegan roast, there were two options: nut roast or vegan sausages.

I went with the vegan sausages. All the roasts cost £15.95.

When the food arrived, it looked lovely and homemade. No frozen, sad-looking vegetables here. This was a proper roast dinner.

The server said they had added more vegetables to mine because there was no Yorkshire pudding, which I appreciated. It meant I still had a proper big plate of food, rather than one of those situations where you pay the same price but mysteriously end up with less.

The vegetables had lots of flavour and were seasoned really nicely. It wasn’t just bland vegetables dumped on a plate, which sadly can happen.

The roast potatoes were very big, but nice and soft inside, even though they looked like they could break your teeth at first glance.

The vegan sausages felt like they might have been the usual Quorn-style ones, although I could be wrong. So if you’re intolerant to mycoprotein, it might be safer to choose the nut roast instead.

I had also looked at the desserts beforehand, although I wasn’t sure if they would be offering them on a Sunday.

Happily, they were.

So I went for the vegan cheesecake with vegan ice cream, which was very tasty.

Overall, it was a good experience, and we have been back since.
