Honestly Tasty & Magpye – Plant-Based Pie Hamper
Truthfully, the main reason we bought this hamper was for the Magpye pies.
We were always going to try some of their products eventually, as we hadn’t had any of their pies before. Then this hamper came along, and I loved the sound of Honestly Tasty blue cheese mixed with a pie.
I’m a big cheese person. I was before I became allergic to milk, and thankfully there are so many good vegan cheeses around now that I can still enjoy a lot of cheese-style products without my body declaring war.
I also hadn’t posted anything from Honestly Tasty on the page before, but I won’t lie — I had tried some of their products already, so I knew I liked them.
So when this hamper arrived, I was very excited. This one definitely caught my attention.
The hamper cost £32.80, which is quite pricey, but it is more of a premium, good-quality product. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.
Products we loved
Shamembert
The Shamembert was a great treat, whether you’re sharing it with someone or just having it when you’re feeling a bit low and need something comforting.
The rind in particular was so tasty. It’s easily the best vegan camembert-style cheese I’ve seen in supermarkets, and you can buy it from Marks & Spencer.
It’s well worth getting as a treat, although be warned — you may end up addicted after that.
Magpye & Honestly Tasty Blue Cheese Pie
The Blue Cheese Pie was properly oozing with cheese.
It was so tasty mixed with gravy, and I do like messy food, so this suited me quite well. It was definitely a bit messy to eat, but that’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes food needs to look like it’s had a small incident.
We especially loved the pastry, so I imagine a lot of Magpye’s other pies would be great as well.
Surprise product
Garlic & Herb Dip
The surprise product for me was the Garlic & Herb Dip.
I really enjoyed it on the cheeseboard, especially with broccoli. It would be a good one for parties, or even for a pizza night as a dip.
Good products, with small issues
Blue Cheese
The Blue Cheese was really creamy and quite mild in flavour. I probably would have liked it a little stronger, but I think most people would enjoy it because it isn’t too overpowering.
Bree / Brie Cheese
The Bree had its own flavour. I liked it, because I tend to enjoy more original flavours, but it is quite earthy, so it might not be to everyone’s taste.
It’s definitely well made though.
Final thoughts
Overall, I had great fun eating and making content for this plant-based pie hamper.
It was pricey, but the quality was there, and it gave me a lot to try. The standouts for me were definitely the Shamembert, the Blue Cheese Pie, and the Garlic & Herb Dip.
