Honey + Harvey Colchester – Vegan Brunch and A Good Flat White
We visited Honey + Harvey in Colchester on 2nd January 2025.
It was a cold January day, and with quite a few places still closed, I decided to check out Honey + Harvey. I’d heard good things about their coffee from @sipbysip_colchester, and as it was close by, it felt like a good excuse for a comforting brunch.
What we had
Vegan Brunch (£14.95)
I went for the Vegan Brunch, which came on a lovely slice of sourdough toast.
It was topped with a grilled tomato, garlic Portobello mushroom, and wilted spinach. I actually really enjoyed the spinach, which surprised me a bit. I was expecting it to be quite bland, but it had a nice, almost seaweedy taste to it.
The dish also came with H+H posh beans, which had a mildly spicy sauce. That made them feel a lot more interesting than standard beans, because plain beans can sometimes just sit there looking like they’ve given up.
The vegan black pudding was a nice touch too. It’s not something you see that often on a vegan breakfast or brunch, and I liked how it added a more savoury, meaty flavour to the plate.
Flat White with oat milk (£4.10)
I also had a flat white with oat milk, and the coffee was as good as people said. It was smooth, creamy, and exactly what I needed on a cold day.
Final thoughts
I’ll be honest, I expected the brunch to be a bit overpriced and fairly standard, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The food was comforting and well-made, and the coffee definitely lived up to the hype.
I’d happily go back and try more.
