Toast Colchester – Coffee Shop With A Tasty Toastie Twist

📅 May 9, 2026 | ✍️ Sneaky305Club

I went to Toast in Colchester after getting my haircut. It was a Tuesday in March 2025, around 11am.

I don’t usually eat at that time, but it turned into a one-off early lunch. Very wild behaviour from me, obviously.

I asked for the toastie to be made vegan, as I’m dairy-free and was eating plant-based at the time anyway.

I went for the truffle and mushroom toastie.

It had a proper earthy mushroom flavour, with the truffle quietly doing its thing in the background. The bread had a good crunch too — not soggy, not trying too hard to be artisan, just solid toastie behaviour.

It was calmly rich, cosy, and something I’d happily order again, even though I’ll still tell myself, “I could make this at home.” I won’t, obviously, but it’s nice to pretend.

I think the menu might have changed a bit since I first went. Not massively, but it has definitely been tweaked. It still feels like the same Toast though.

I also had a flat white, and it was actually good. I did genuinely enjoy it, although I might have also been in desperate need of coffee at that point.

And as for the big question — well, not big, but you get what I mean:

Would I rather have a toastie from Toast than a toastie from Costa?

Yes. Easily. No contest.

The toastie from Costa is the kind of thing you’d rather forget about very, very quickly.

The one from Toast went very quickly — which usually means I enjoyed it.
