MukBap London Review: Homely Korean Food Near Liverpool Street
This is an old review, as we went here back in August 2023.
We saw a video of MukBap by @rollinjoint1, where Rollin Lee commented, “It tasted so good, like eating at home.”
We love food that feels like that, so MukBap immediately went near the top of our list of places to try back in 2023.
I was still very hesitant about going to MukBap, as my experience of Korean food hasn’t been great so far. The places I’ve been to have felt very westernised, with dishes made more for western tastes. Some of it just hasn’t been that great to me, unfortunately.
After watching the Gran Turismo movie at Everyman, it was time to go to MukBap. It’s only a short walk from London Liverpool Street train station, so it’s a good option if you’re nearby.
MukBap is a very small place, but it feels really homely. It’s a family-run business, with the son as the owner, and his mother sometimes front of house, serving people.
That added to the whole feeling of the place, really. It didn’t feel like some soulless restaurant trying too hard — it felt more personal.
We were excited to try the menu. For starters, we had Crispy Seaweed Rolls (Kimmari), Veggie Pancakes (Pajeon) and Fat Rolls (KimBap). For our main, we had Spicy Rice Cakes (Tteokbokki), which were quite spicy, but the sauce really made them nice to eat.
It had that homemade food feeling, which really suits me, so I was very impressed.
We were willing to try a number of items from the menu, as we knew we probably wouldn’t be trying Korean vegan food again for a while.
