ASDA OMV BBQ No Ribs – Vegan Summer Food Worth Trying

📅 May 7, 2026 | ✍️ Sneaky305Club

I bought these ASDA OMV BBQ No Ribs in early June 2024 for £3.50. They are part of the OMV range from ASDA and weigh 270g.

They’re glazed in a sugar and smoked paprika sauce, with a BBQ sauce as well.

These stood out to me as the perfect kind of summer food. I didn’t enjoy Aldi’s version of BBQ ribs, as I found them dry and didn’t like the texture at all. I do rate Oumph! BBQ Smokehouse Ribs from Iceland though — they’re flavourful and meaty.

From a distance, these ASDA ones do look a bit like real ribs. There’s no bone or fake bone like you get with some products, but visually, they do have that rib-style look.

Texture-wise, they reminded me a bit of waffles if you don’t split them up, which sounds strange, but that’s where my brain went. Taste-wise, they were a bit like seitan, although I don’t think there’s actually any wheat gluten in them. The texture was similar too.

They were okay, but I wouldn’t say they were mind-blowing or anything like that. The BBQ sauce was enjoyable though, and that definitely helped them.

Do I think they’re better than Oumph! Sticky Smokehouse Ribs on taste? No. For me, Oumph has the better flavour, better coating, and a texture that feels more like ribs — more chewy and succulent.

If you miss the look of BBQ ribs, then the ASDA ones do look the part, and you might even get a non-vegan to try them.

Would I pick them up again if I was in ASDA? Yes, I think I would. They’re still a good price and nice enough to eat.

They’re just not as good as Oumph’s for me.

I’d give them around 7/10 to 7.5/10.
