THIS Isn’t Chicken Thighs – A Realistic Plant-Based Mock Meat
Our favourite product from last year that we tried was this one: THIS Isn’t Chick’n Thighs.
I bought them from Tesco for £3.90, although I think most supermarkets stock them now. They even sell frozen versions of these as well.
For me, they replicate pretty much everything you’d expect from a chicken thigh. Maybe for some people they are almost too realistic, because the way they flake apart genuinely makes you feel like you’re eating a chicken thigh.
I think they are clearly aimed at the plant-based market, which probably includes people like me, who would have eaten this sort of thing before going vegan. I also think they appeal to the flexitarian market too. I was basically one of those before I even knew the word existed.
I would say they do have their own THIS Isn’t taste, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They are still very tasty and go well with dipping sauces, marinades, wraps, rice dishes, or whatever else you want to chuck them with.
I think this is a good product to buy if you’ve invited some non-vegans round who are proper meat eaters, because they might be surprised by how realistic the texture is.
For me, THIS Isn’t is a good brand if you want to try mock meat, because their products usually hit that meaty craving spot.
It would be interesting to know if they are planning to make a vegan steak at some point.
What product would you like THIS Isn’t to make next?
