Cradle Sudbury – Plant-Based Food and Sourdough Tartine
Cradle had been on my list for a while. I first came across them at a pop-up at Commons Café, then later realised they were based in Sudbury, so they’d been somewhere I wanted to visit for a bit.
They were a small plant-based restaurant using organic ingredients to make simple, seasonal food taste genuinely good. It was the kind of menu where everything felt carefully put together.
I think they made all their own sourdough too, which is always a bonus.
I went for the balsamic beetroot and wilted spinach tartine, served on toasted sourdough with almond ricotta and minted leaves. It cost £12.50.
The flavours were properly balanced — light, earthy, and fresh.
I’m not originally a beetroot fan, but since I’d come all that way to check the place out, I thought I should at least give it a go. I’ll be honest, I was a bit nervous this might end up being my first meal I didn’t really like at all.
Thankfully, it was tasty. It just goes to show that if something is made in the right hands, most things can be decent. Even beetroot, apparently. Didn’t expect character development from a root vegetable, but here we are.
It looked really good to eat as well — and luckily, it actually was.
I also had a cinnamon bun, which, like most cakes to me, was very nice. Not exactly shocking news from me there.
They did serve coffee as well, but I’d already had one at Barista Shed, so I tried to order their kombucha instead. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any that day.
I wasn’t very lucky with kombucha around that time, so I went for an apple juice instead.
