Magpye & Honestly Tasty Steak And Blue Cheese Pie
This was our first time trying Magpye’s pies. Magpye is a vegan pie company, and we saw they were doing a collaboration with Honestly Tasty, which completely sold it to me.
I love Honestly Tasty products. They’re a premium vegan cheese company, and you can buy some of their products from Marks & Spencer and Ocado.
This time, they were doing a bundle together with different Honestly Tasty products and the pies, so we’ll be featuring more of the products I got from that bundle.
The pies are called Plant Powered Steak and Blue Cheese Pie, and inside the pie you get Honestly Tasty’s blue cheese and Sgaia seitan steak. I haven’t tried anything from Sgaia before, but I’m sure we’ll be trying some of their products in the future.
The pastry on these pies is wonderful. It’s the sort of pie I think Northerners dream about. I feel like Northerners can be very protective of their pies, haha.
The golden pastry makes these pies look really appealing when you take them out of the box, and they also have a black pepper topping, which is a nice touch.
So it was time to cook them, and I couldn’t wait to eat the pie.
The cooking time is 20–25 minutes from the fridge or 30–35 minutes from frozen. I’d just keep an eye on them and see how they’re doing, because everyone’s oven can be slightly different. I don’t want to be blamed for any burnt pies.
We also made a nice thick gravy sauce, because we thought we’d do it properly in the northern style.
I had very high hopes for these pies, and they didn’t disappoint.
The taste was exceptional. The gooey, melty blue cheese oozing into the gravy from the steak was honestly heavenly. They didn’t skimp on the filling either — this was a proper meaty pie at the same time.
I remember finishing the first one and thinking I wanted to eat the other pie straight away. That would have been a little greedy, so I had the other one the next day for dinner.
And it didn’t disappoint again.
