Patch Colchester – Vegetarian Café Food and Coffee
Patch in Colchester is a vegetarian café, with most of the menu being vegan-friendly.
Their ethos is all about serving locally grown produce from small independent producers, as well as produce from their own patch — hence the name Patch. Makes sense really, otherwise it would be a very random name.
We’ve been to Patch on Trinity Street in Colchester a few times before for coffee and cakes, but this time we went for dinner. We visited the day before Christmas Eve last year.
I had the Hashbrown Stack, which is made using Fairfields Farm potatoes. It’s a 24-hour pressed hash brown served with guacamole, roasted cherry tomatoes, flame-roasted red peppers and fresh spinach.
It cost £10.
I originally saw someone else eating this on another visit to Patch, and that was when I knew that next time I went, I was definitely having it. You know when you see someone else’s food and suddenly your own plans are irrelevant.
It was very tasty, and everything tasted really fresh.
As a side, we shared the chickpea fries, which cost £4.75. They had a really nice seasoning to them, and I believe we had them with a mushroom sauce.
To finish it off, we had some Sipp’d apple juice, which was a nice little ending to the meal.
The staff at Patch are really helpful and friendly. They explain what’s in the food if you have any food intolerances, and whenever I’ve been, they ask straight away if you have any allergies, which is always good to see.
They’ve also done late-night openings on Saturdays and live events, if that’s your thing.
Being from Colchester, I thought I’d mention it.
