The Athenian – Vegan Gyros Wraps Worth Ordering on Deliveroo

It was the end of the day, and I was struggling with too many choices at Spitalfields Market. In the end, we decided to go on Deliveroo and order from The Athenian.

It was my first time trying The Athenian, so I was looking forward to it.

They had a nice selection of vegan food from their plant-based menu, including a courgette fritter wrap, which is basically their Greek-style “falafel”, a vegan gyros box, vegan gyros wrap, vegan gyros skepasti, and a tomato croquette wrap.

I originally wrote this post at the start of the year, so the menu may have changed since then. Always worth checking before you get emotionally attached to a wrap.

We went for the deal for two at the time, which cost £27. That included two vegan gyros wraps, two portions of chips, and a couple of cans of Coke.

I couldn’t wait to try the vegan gyros wrap, as I’m a big lover of seitan meat, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The wrap had loads of flavour from the mix of Greek herbs, along with the meatiness from the seitan, plus lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, parsley, and oregano fries.

It was all held together with The Athenian’s fluffy homemade pitta bread, which was soft and properly enjoyable. Very much doing its job. No sad supermarket wrap behaviour here.

I went with the gyros sauce inside my wrap, and I’m glad I did, as it added a nice mild flavour without taking over.

I also loved the chips. I’m a big fan of chips mixed with herbs, so they were a winner for me as well.

If you like food with plenty of flavour without too much spice, then The Athenian is a very good choice. They do also have a fiery chilli sauce if you want a bit more heat.

We thought the price was fair, especially as the food was so flavourful and filling.

Here’s hoping they open a branch in Colchester one day.
